About Us
These workshops are created and delivered by Helen and Chris Hoyte—two passionate, down-to-earth counsellors who both live with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and have spent years supporting others with it, too.
Between us, we run www.helenhoyte.co.uk and www.counsellingtorbay.co.uk, offering therapy and psychoeducation for people navigating ADHD, neurodivergence, trauma, and the challenges of modern life. We don’t just talk theory—we live this stuff.
We understand how ADHD can show up in the therapy room, often disguised as anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem, feeling ‘too much’ and believing they are ‘too sensitive’.
We also know how life-changing it can be when someone finally feels seen and understood.
This five-part training is designed by counsellors, for counsellors, bringing together lived experience of ADHD, up-to-date science, and years of hands-on therapeutic work. Whether you’re completely new to ADHD or looking to deepen your existing knowledge, these workshops offer grounded, accessible tools and insights to support your work—and maybe yourself, too.
Workshop 1: Understanding ADHD – From Evidence to Insight
Tuesday 23/09/2025
This foundational workshop is ideal for counsellors who want to build a clear, evidence-based understanding of ADHD. Covering the core symptoms, diagnostic process, and neurobiological roots, the session also addresses myths, stigma, and common co-occurring conditions. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and myth-busting activities, participants will leave with a confident grasp of what ADHD is—and what it’s not.

Workshop 2: ADHD in Daily Life – Impacts & Coping Strategies
Tuesday 21/10/2025
Focused on two of the most common ADHD difficulties, this practical session helps counsellors support clients in improving time management and communication. You’ll learn tools like task prioritisation, planner systems, and calendar blocking, along with active listening and assertiveness techniques. Participants will practise using real-life tools and develop personalised approaches that are ready to take back into the therapy room.
This workshop dives into how ADHD shows up in the real world—at home, in work, and in relationships. Participants will explore the day-to-day challenges clients face and learn how to support them with effective, practical coping tools. With a mix of discussion, role-play, and reflection, the session will empower counsellors to better understand the lived experience of ADHD and to offer personalised, client-centred strategies.
⸻
Workshop 3: Executive Function & ADHD – Time Management, Organisation & Communication
Tuesday 25/11/2025
This practical workshop explores the core executive function challenges faced by many clients with ADHD, including difficulties with planning, time awareness, task initiation, and self-monitoring. You’ll learn how these challenges impact everyday tasks and interpersonal communication. Through hands-on exercises, participants will explore tools like calendar blocking, prioritisation strategies, and communication frameworks to support clients in managing their inner world and outer commitments more effectively. Perfect for counsellors who want to go beyond surface behaviours and address the underlying cognitive mechanisms.
⸻
Workshop 4: Emotional Regulation & Building Healthy Relationships
Tuesday 06/01/2026
This workshop focuses on the emotional ups and downs of ADHD and how these affect relationships. Counsellors will learn practical techniques to support clients with emotional regulation, including mindfulness and cognitive restructuring, alongside strategies for building stronger, more connected relationships. Real-life examples and group reflection bring theory into practice.
⸻
Workshop 5: Overcoming Procrastination & Planning for the Future
Tuesday 03/02/2026
Our final workshop tackles procrastination—one of the biggest ADHD hurdles—and helps participants support clients in taking consistent action. Through guided exercises and evidence-based approaches, attendees will create personalised anti-procrastination plans and explore goal-setting techniques. The session also includes space for reviewing key learning and planning future support strategies.
