About Helen

Helping you understand yourself and create a life that works for you.

Hello, I’m Helen.

I’m an integrative counsellor, coach, supervisor, tutor and workshop facilitator with a particular passion for supporting neurodivergent adults, including people with ADHD, Autism and AuDHD.

My interest in this work comes from both professional experience and personal understanding.

For much of my life, I felt different without fully understanding why.

Like many people I work with today, I spent years trying harder, pushing through, questioning myself and wondering why some things seemed so much more difficult than they appeared to be for other people.

Over time, I began to understand that many of the struggles I had experienced were not signs of failure or weakness.

They were signs that I was trying to navigate life without fully understanding myself.

That understanding changed everything.

It gave me a new perspective on my experiences, my relationships, my strengths, my challenges and my identity.

It also shaped the way I work with others.

More Than A Therapist

While I am professionally trained as a counsellor and coach, my work has never been solely about techniques or theories.

I am deeply interested in people.

I am fascinated by what shapes us, how we make sense of ourselves, how our past influences our present, and how we can create meaningful change in our lives.

Over the years I have developed a particular interest in:

• ADHD and Autism

• Emotional regulation

• Identity and self-worth

• Relationships and communication

• Burnout and overwhelm

• Trauma and resilience

• The connection between mind and body

• The impact of hormones, stress and life transitions

Much of my work focuses on helping people move from self-criticism and confusion towards understanding, self-acceptance and greater confidence in who they are.

How I Work

I believe that people make sense.

Even when life feels chaotic, overwhelming or stuck, there are usually understandable reasons why we think, feel and respond in the ways that we do.

Rather than asking “What’s wrong with me?”, I often encourage people to explore a different question:

“What happened, and what makes sense about the way I learned to cope?”

This shift can be incredibly powerful

.

Understanding creates relief.

Relief creates hope.

Hope creates change.

Beyond The Therapy Room

Alongside my private practice, I teach counselling, provide clinical supervision and facilitate workshops and training.

I enjoy helping people make sense of complex ideas and translating psychological concepts into practical, meaningful tools that can be applied in everyday life.

I am particularly passionate about creating resources that support neurodivergent adults, helping them better understand themselves and build lives that work with their strengths rather than against them.

A Little About Me

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me learning something new, spending time in nature, exploring movement practices, working on creative projects or having conversations about the things that make us human.

I believe that growth isn’t about becoming somebody else.

It’s about understanding who you already are and having the courage to build a life that reflects that.

If my approach resonates with you, I’d be delighted to hear from you.

🐾 Meet Humphrey & Sandy

Humphrey and Sandy are my two seven-year-old Cockapoos and a much-loved part of both my family and my practice.

I never set out to have dogs in the therapy room. It simply happened naturally over time.

As many clients have come to know them, they have become a valued and comforting part of the therapeutic environment.

Humphrey and Sandy usually join me in the therapy room and are often one of the first things clients notice when they arrive.

🐾 Humphrey

Humphrey is usually found relaxing quietly under my chair, although he will almost certainly be delighted to meet you first.

He enjoys a fuss, a stroke and a friendly hello before settling down for the session.

🐾 Sandy

Sandy is calm, gentle and incredibly intuitive. She has a remarkable ability to sense when someone may be feeling emotional or vulnerable and will occasionally offer quiet companionship by sitting nearby or gently resting beside you.

More often than not, she can be found peacefully snoozing somewhere in the room.

While their presence is often a source of comfort, reassurance and warmth, they are generally very respectful of the therapeutic space and spend most sessions quietly resting nearby.

Many clients tell me that they enjoy having them present and that their calm companionship helps them feel more relaxed and at ease.

Of course, not everyone is comfortable around dogs, and that is absolutely fine. If you would prefer Humphrey and Sandy not to be present during your session, please let me know when booking and I will ensure they are kept out of the therapy room.

❤️ Two very well-loved members of the team.
